Progress Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 2, 2026
Progress: Photo Journal ("Progress") is provided by Textual, LLC, San Francisco, California, United States ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains how information is handled when you use Progress or contact us about it. Contact us at info@textual.studio.
Our approach
Progress is a personal photo journal. Your photo library and measurements are stored in the app on your device, and photo analysis runs on your device. We do not operate a server that receives your Progress photo library or Health records. You do not need a Progress account.
We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, display third-party advertising, or use your photos or health information to train machine-learning models. We do not receive your photos simply because you capture, import, or compare them in Progress.
Local storage is not a promise that information can never leave your device. Your device backups, optional Apple Photos copies, Apple Health settings, and information you choose to send to support can involve other services, as described below.
Information processed on your device
Photos and session information. Progress processes camera images and photos you choose to import, together with session dates, pose labels, thumbnails, and related settings. Imported files can retain embedded metadata, including capture dates and location information already present in the original file. Progress does not request your device's location to track you.
Photo analysis. Progress processes images and live camera frames to detect body landmarks, suggest poses, guide capture, and align photos for viewing. It may save derived landmarks and analysis results with a photo. This processing takes place on your device; these features are not used to identify you or create a remote identity database. Camera access is used for the capture feature. Spoken capture instructions are audio output, not microphone recording.
Measurements. If you enter measurements, Progress stores them with your sessions. If you enable Apple Health access, Progress can read permitted weight and body-fat measurements and save copies with relevant sessions. If you separately enable writing to Health, Progress can send measurements you enter to Apple Health. Health access is optional and can be managed in Apple's Health or system settings. Revoking permission stops future permitted access; it does not automatically remove values previously saved in Progress or Health.
Optional estimates. In versions that offer experimental photo-based body-fat estimates, enabling the feature processes eligible photos and a sex value supplied by you or, with permission, read from Apple Health. Estimates and related inputs remain on your device. These estimates are separate from measurements you enter or import, and Progress does not write its photo-based estimates to Apple Health.
Preferences and app protection. Progress stores preferences such as measurement units, storage choices, and app-lock settings. If you enable app protection, Apple handles Face ID, Touch ID, or device-credential authentication. Progress receives an authentication result, not your biometric template or device passcode. App protection controls access to the app; it is not a separate encryption or backup service.
We use this on-device information to provide the features you choose. We do not use Health information for advertising, marketing profiles, or data brokerage.
Apple Photos, files, and backups
Importing from Photos or a file provider may cause that provider to retrieve an image from its cloud storage. Progress saves its own local copy; deleting that copy does not delete the source file.
If you enable saving new captures to Apple Photos, Progress requests the access needed to create and manage its album and writes independent copies of new camera captures. This setting does not automatically copy your existing Progress library or imported photos. Copies may be marked Hidden, depending on your choice, but Hidden is an Apple Photos visibility feature, not a guarantee against access or synchronization. Copies can sync through iCloud Photos according to your Apple settings.
Deleting a session, retaking a photo, disabling copies, or deleting Progress does not remove copies already saved in Apple Photos. Manage those copies, including Recently Deleted, in Photos.
Device or computer backups may contain app data depending on your operating system, backup method, and settings. Progress does not provide its own cloud backup or cross-device library synchronization. Apple and other providers handle their services under their own policies. We cannot retrieve or erase information in your personal backups, Photos library, Health store, or file-provider account.
Purchases
This TestFlight beta has no purchases or subscriptions. If paid features are introduced, we will update this policy to describe the purchase information the app processes before those features become available.
Diagnostics and support
The version covered by this policy has no third-party advertising, session-replay, or product-analytics SDK. Apple may make usage statistics and crash diagnostics available to us through its developer services, subject to Apple's settings and policies. During the TestFlight beta, Apple also provides tester information and feedback you submit, including screenshots or attachments you choose to send, under its TestFlight terms and privacy information. We use those reports to understand reliability and improve Progress; we do not intentionally include photo contents or Health values in diagnostics.
If you contact info@textual.studio, we receive your email address, your message, and any attachments or diagnostic information you choose to provide. We use them to respond, investigate issues, and maintain necessary support records. Please do not send body photos, Health records, or other sensitive material unless needed for your request. We do not need your entire photo library to provide ordinary support.
Our email and support providers may process these communications on our behalf. We require service providers processing personal information for us to protect it, restrict its use to the services they provide, and provide protection consistent with this policy. We may also disclose information we actually hold when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect legal rights or safety, or respond to a valid legal request. These circumstances do not give us access to information stored only on your device.
If our business or Progress is transferred, information we hold may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law and the protections in this policy. This does not authorize uploading your local library.
Retention and deletion
Your local library remains until you remove it using the app or device controls. Deleting the app can remove locally stored data; offloading an app may preserve it. Do not delete the app as a way to cancel a subscription or without considering your photo copies and backups.
Deleting a session from Progress does not delete measurements already written to Apple Health. Manage those separately in Health. Copies in backups and third-party services follow those services' retention and deletion controls.
We retain support communications only as long as reasonably needed to resolve your request, maintain relevant support history, meet legal obligations, or establish or defend legal claims. We periodically review records for deletion. Required transaction and business records may be retained for applicable accounting, tax, or legal periods. We do not retain a remote copy of your Progress library.
Your choices and rights
You can decline optional permissions, change storage and app-protection settings, revoke access through Apple settings, and delete local sessions. Some features will not work without the permissions needed for them.
Depending on where you live and the laws that apply, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information we hold; withdraw consent; restrict or object to processing; or appeal a decision about a privacy request. Email info@textual.studio to exercise those rights or ask a privacy question. We will verify requests proportionately, respond within applicable legal deadlines, and explain any lawful limits. We will not require you to upload your private photo library to verify a request. You may also complain to your relevant privacy regulator. We will not discriminate against you for exercising applicable privacy rights.
For information stored only on your device, we cannot remotely access or delete it; we will explain available device and app controls. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing already lawfully completed.
Security and international processing
Progress uses Apple's app isolation and system security features. No device, app, backup, or transmission method is completely secure. Protect your device, Apple Account, and backups, and consider enabling app protection.
Textual, LLC operates in the United States. Support communications and business records may be processed in the United States or where our service providers operate. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, we will use the required safeguards. This does not change the on-device processing of your photo library.
Adults only
Progress is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information through our support or business services from children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us so we can address it and delete it where appropriate.
Changes and contact
We will update the effective date when this policy changes. For material changes, we will provide an appropriate notice, such as an in-app notice, before the change takes effect and obtain consent where required. A policy update alone does not authorize a new use of sensitive information that requires your consent.
